Opposition heads to join Cory run

-

CEBU, Philippines - Opposition leaders are set to join a five-kilometer “Run for Cory” starting at Metrosports along Salinas Drive 5:30 a.m. today and ending at the Crown Regency along Osmeña Boulevard.

The runners will be wearing yellow to mark nine days since the death of former president Corazon Aquino.

Tinago barangay councilman Joel Garganera yesterday said their party Kugi Uswag Sugbo is joining the run along with businessmen, civic groups and athletes.

“We will be wearing yellow-colored jerseys as a way of thanking her (Cory),” Garganera said.

Lahug barangay captain Mary Ann de los Santos, who is also a runner like Garganera, will also join.

Meanwhile, national opposition figures led by ousted president Joseph Estrada will follow with a “Lakbay Pasasalamat” caravan at the south district.

Opposition figure and businessman Jonathan Guardo said the run will be followed by the national opposition party Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino’s caravan with Estrada and Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile at the City’s South District.

Estrada has toured several parts of the country to thank the public for the support given to him and his party.

Guardo said, he, along with Estrada and Enrile, will lead the motorcade that will pass through barangays Banawa, Labangon, Tisa, Punta Princesa, Kinasang-an Pardo, Inayawan, Basak-San Nicolas, Mambaling, Duljo-Fatima, Sawang Calero and end in Pasil.

Guardo said there will be mini rallies at Tisa, Duljo-Fatima and Pasil in which they will call for rightful leadership such as the ones modeled by Aquino.

Estrada is Guardo’s endorser of his health supplement Arthro. He will be back in Cebu in October for the Arthro Run. — Ferliza C. Contratista/BRP   (THE FREEMAN)
