Slain ex-convict used false name during arrest

-

CEBU, Philippines - The ex-convict, who was shot dead last week in sitio Bato, barangay Ermita, Cebu City apparently used a false name during his last arrest.

This was learned only recently when the father and wife of Jerry Jose Panirasan claimed his body from the funeral parlor.

He was earlier identified as Jose Arcilla Pabillon, 38, who was recently released from the city jail for theft.

SPO4 Dennis Moga of Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section said that Panirasan possibly lied to the arresting officers, to the city prosecutor’s office, to the court, and to the Cebu City Jail.

Panirasan was reportedly shot dead by an unidentified assailant last Sunday night barely eight hours after he was released from jail.

Records show that the victim was detained last March 2 this year for theft and was released 11:30 a.m. last Sunday. He was shot at his head twice causing his death.

Moga said that it is the first time that they encountered a person principally involved in a crime that had used a false name.

“Naa g’yud s’ya’y intensyon nga dili maayo kay minggamit gud siya og laing ngalan,” Moga said.

He said that the victim was using different names quite a several times before.

In fact, his wife Godofreda allegedly told the police, that her husband once used “Godofredo” as his first name.

Moga said that they have already verified the victim’s name to the city jail and it appeared that the latter really used the name Jose Arcilla Pabillon. It was not known, however, if the victim used the real middle name but the police doubt it also.

When the reporters tried to call the victim’s family at the St. Francis Funeral Homes where the body was taken, they were already off to Balamban with the victim’s remains.

Godofreda said that her husband was a resident of Balamban town and not of Cebu City. Moga said that they are now tracing who were the arresting officers of Panirasan last March.

Supt. Pablo Labra II, Chief of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch of CCPO, said that they could not also blame the arresting officers if they were given the wrong information by the suspect.

However, Labra said, the police must, at least, take extra effort to verify and confirm the information given to them by the suspect, especially regarding the information on their personal background.

Moga, for his part, said that they are sure that such incident did not happen yet at the CCPO Homicide Section, because they verify and confirm the information, given to them by the suspect. — Niña G. Sumacot/NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
