Ex-convict shot dead hours after leaving jail

-

CEBU, Philippines - Barely a few hours after he was released from jail, a man was shot dead by an unidentified assailant the other night in sitio Bato Carbon, barangay Ermita, Cebu City.

Jose Arcilla Pabillon, 38, of Ponce Compound, barangay Carreta, died on the spot after he was shot in the left side of his head.

The alleged assailant, who was wearing an orange shirt, was riding pillion on a black motorcycle driven by another man.

Investigation conducted by SPO3 Rey Cuyos of Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section revealed that the victim was walking when the alleged assailant shot him twice before speeding away towards F. Gonzales St.

Police recovered two empty shells of a .40 cal. pistol from the crime scene, P300 cash and a copy of release order from Cebu City Jail bearing the name of the victim.

Records show that the victim was detained last March 2 this year for theft and was released 11:30 a.m. just the other day. He was shot dead at 7:10 p.m. that same day.

The body was taken to St. Francis Funeral Homes for autopsy.

Homicide Section chief, Insp. Vicente Velasquez, said that they will do a background check on the victim to determine the possible motive of the perpetrators.

Velasquez said that they will also coordinate with the Cebu City Jail to determine if the victim has been jailed before.

CCPO director Patrocinio Comendador said that the victim might have been shot dead by someone he encountered inside the jail and consequently harbored a grudge against him.

Comendador also said that the victim was at the area where he was shot dead possibly because he was transacting “business” with someone. — Niña G. Sumacot/BRP   (THE FREEMAN)
