Tom willing to study in Gwen's college
CEBU, Philippines - Mayor Tomas Osmeña has accepted the offer of the Capitol officials to study at the soon-to-be constructed Cebu Gwen College in Naga so he will learn how to teach the senior citizens to catch fish.
“I really want to learn how they will teach our lolos and lolas how to feed for themselves by teaching them how to fish in Gwen’s underwater college. Amazing!” Osmeña said.
It was Governor Gwen Garcia’s brother, Byron, who told the reporters on Friday that he wants to be the administrator of the Cebu Gwen College so he can offer a scholarship grant to the mayor so he can have a college diploma.
When The FREEMAN asked the mayor for his reaction, Osmeña quickly replied “Yes. There’s a lot to learn from them. For example, they said they don’t like to give assistance to senior citizens because it is better ‘to teach a person how to fish instead of giving fish’.”
Osmeña continue to attack the provincial officials for entering into projects without first conducting thorough planning.
The mayor criticized the provincial officials for buying a property in Naga that comprises of 12 certificates of titles, but part of the property is submerged.
Osmeña learned that the Capitol officials are planning to construct the Cebu Gwen College in that newly-bought property that is why he described the soon-to-be constructed college as “School of Fish”.
Provincial attorney Marino Martinquilla has already been ordered to look into the allegations that a portion of the property is submerged and that it cannot be titled since the land is a public domain, but it was part of those bought by the province.
Osmeña earlier made fun of the lot purchase because the Cebu Gwen College is the “first college underwater, whose students could be fishers”. — Rene U. Borromeo/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
