Tom warns dishonest City Hall personnel

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña wants dishonest people terminated from City Hall, even if these are members of his “cream of the crop”, the Mayor’s Management Team.

“Any act of dishonesty is termination, we don’t tolerate that,” Osmeña said in a press conference yesterday after learning an MMT member was caught punching in the Daily Time Record of a fellow MMT member recently.

However no names were given as there was yet no formal complaint received.

“Dishonesty is tantamount to stealing, if you lose your temper, no; if you get drunk, no; but if you steal, yes you’re terminated. You’re stealing government time,” he said.

He said that he will have the matter investigated by the Employee Management Committee on Inquiry and assured that there will be no whitewash, even if the head, Marie Velle Abella was once a member of the MMT.

“The MMT will not tolerate that, they want to protect the standards of the MMT,” Osmeña said.

Abella said so far no complaint has ever been raised at her office with the MMTs as the subject.

She said they have a scheduled hearing for the same offense allegedly committed by a member of the Department of Engineering and Public Works a month ago.

Last the month a member of the MMT also became a hot topic after it was alleged she had an affair with a city councilor, something both of them denied. — Ferliza C. Contratista/BRP   (THE FREEMAN)
