Man dies in Carcar road mishap

CEBU, Philippines – A 21-year-old man died after the jeepney he was riding in was swept aside by a speeding cargo truck along the national highway in barangay Ocaña, Carcar City midnight last Sunday.

The fatality was identified as Jun Rey Tapinit, a resident of Pinamungajan town. At the time of the accident, he was on board a private jeepney with plate number GSU-567 driven by a certain Wilson Sabas, 28.

Investigation revealed that the private jeepney was about to enter the national road when the Cebu-bound Isuzu cargo truck bearing plate number GCN-236 driven by Abraham Davin, 60, hit the vehicle.

The impact has thrown the passengers off the jeepney, including Tapinit who died at the scene. 

The jeepney’s owner, Reynante Baillo, and his wife Irish and one Angelito Tapinit, 18, also sustained injuries and were rushed to the Carcar hospital. They were later transferred to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Tapinit’s remains now lie at the Tupaz Funeral Homes.

Sabas is now under the custody of the Carcar police awaiting the filing of appropriate charges against him. — Christopher Gabriel C. Bonjoc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
