Guardrails put up in accident-prone sitio

CEBU, Philippines – To prevent any more accidents in sitio Maaslom, barangay Busay, the Department of Public Works and Highways has put up roadside railings there.

DPWH regional director Josefino Rigor reported to the city council that Cebu City district engineer Nicomedes Leonor has completed the installation of guardrails and signages in sitio Maaslom.

Rigor said the project was completed last April 27, a week after Busay barangay captain Eliodoro Sanchez made a request to his office.

The guardrails and signages, Rigor said, was meant to direct drivers and passengers passing the area night and day.

A barangay-owned minibus plunged down a cliff in sitio Maaslom last April 22 and killed two persons and injuring 40 other passengers.

The area was also declared by Busay as a disaster-prone area.

Sanchez appeal for the guardrails in 2007 yet when a father and his son died when their car plunged down a cliff also in sitio Maaslom.

The most that barangay officials did that time was to put up warning signs reminding drivers to be extra careful. — Ferliza C. Contratista/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
