CEBU, Philippines - A shoemaker was found guilty by a Cebu Court for killing his fellow shoemaker almost 10 years ago.
Arnold Canaya was sentenced to reclusion perpetua for murdering Alenjun Dimaonahan on October 16, 1999.
Witnesses said Dimaonahan was singing at a karaoke bar when Canaya appeared and shot him. Canaya was arrested by police five months later.
Canaya denied having committed the crime but Dimaonahan’s mother said her son mentioned Canaya’s nickname “Tisoy” before he died.
Regional Trial Court Branch 58 Judge Gilbert Moises gave credence to the positive identification made by the victim.
In his ruling, Moises also ordered Canaya to pay P50,000 to Dimaonahan’s family. — Jasmin R. Uy/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
