Man went berserk during arrest for mauling partner

CEBU, Philippines - The man went berserk after he was picked up by members of the Malabuyoc police for mauling his live-in partner.

The incident happened in sitio Kanjorolan, barangay Armeña in Malabuyoc town. The suspect was identified as one Josesimo Cadungog.

Investigation showed that SPO1 Mario Paler was driving his multicab home when he chanced upon a man mauling a woman, which prompted him to stop and intervene. Despite identifying himself as a police officer, Paler said Cadungog did not give in.

Paler then called assistance from the police station and several other policemen arrived and helped bring Cadungog to the police station.

However, Cadungog reportedly went berserk on the way and kicked the door of the vehicle until it was partially damaged. Not satisfied, Cadungog again allegedly went berserk at the detention cell and destroyed the door of the restroom.

The policemen said Cadungog sustained injuries as a result of his actuations but rumors were persistent that the policemen allegedly mauled him during the arrest. Cadungog was even brought to the nearby hospital to have his injuries treated.

Charges for direct assault and malicious mischief are expected to be filed against Cadungog tomorrow. — Christopher Gabriel C. Bonjoc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
