CEBU, Philippines – Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy (ANAD) Rep. Pastor “Jun” Alcover visited Daanbantayan yesterday to thank the people of the town for supporting him in 2007 elections.
ANAD partylist garnered around 10,000 votes in Daanbantayan, the highest among all towns and cities in Cebu, in the 2007 elections.
During their visit, Alcover and his party were welcomed by the town officials led by Mayor Sun Shimura and Vice Mayor Ma. Luisa Loot. He said that even if he was given a seat in Congress “at the last two minutes,” he assured that he would attend to the needs of the people before the 2010 elections.
Being a resident in the municipality of Tabogon, Alcover promised to work closely with Rep. Benhur Salimbangon in the implementation of programs and projects in the fourth district.
He is hoping that in the next elections, ANAD could send the maximum three representatives to Congress as allowed by the Constitution.
“Atong ipadayon ang sakripisyo ug pakigbisog aron pagpalig-on sa atong demokrasya ug pagkab-ot sa tinuod nga kagawasan ug kalinaw,” Alcover said.
Loot thanked barangay leaders and coordinators for supporting her candidates and the ANAD partylist in the last elections.
“Ako ang unang nalipay niini,” Loot said, referring to the Supreme Court proclamation last April 28 of ANAD partylist as one of the 32 additional sectoral groups.
Alcover shared how he stood in Congress against left-leaning partylist groups such as Bayan Muna, Anakpawis, Gabriela and Kabataan. He also thanked the vice mayor’s husband, Sr. Supt. Vicente Loot, for supporting his cause. — Gregg M. Rubio/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
