Man charged for "duping" Talisay residents for jobs

CEBU, Philippines – Charges for illegal recruitment were filed in court yesterday against a man who allegedly duped eight residents of Talisay City for jobs in Cebu City last month.

The respondent was identified as Adrian Albores and the complainants were identified as Jenny Bacus, Rose Tanzo, Lyn Tanzo, Lozellin Dino, Jonalyn Van, Jaypee Bacus, Romeo Rabadon and Junrison Cabellon.

The complainants said that on June 15, they were at the house of one Lorifel Bacus when Albores allegedly approached them and introduced himself as a general manager of a call center. He also allegedly claimed to have connections with Ramon Aboitiz.

Albores reportedly told them he has been recruiting applicants from Talisay through a certain Ali and, at that time, he was looking for applicants for janitors, elevator operators, accountants, drivers and secretaries.

He then reportedly interviewed them and said they would have a salary of P8,000 once hired.

The complainants said Albores even made them undergo a “physical check-up” right there at Bacus’ house where he instructed the men to take off their clothes and allegedly touched them.

The complainants said they were subsequently hired and Albores allegedly asked P15 from each of them for their I.D’s and nameplates. The next day, Albores reportedly called Jaypee and told him to tell the others that he would be collecting P215 from each of them. However, the suspect did not show up in the scheduled meeting.

The complainants said that when they finally met Albores the following day, they reportedly asked him to present a clearance authorizing him to recruit, but Albores allegedly failed to do so, which prompted them to file the case against him.

Talisay City Associate Prosecutor Jennelyn Forrosuelo filed the case against Albores in court, saying there is probable cause for him to face trial. No bail was recommended for the Albores’ temporary liberty. — Jasmin R. Uy/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
