CEBU, Philippines – The military’s Central Command handed over one million pesos yesterday to the two informants who were instrumental in the arrest of two communist leaders.
On July 26, 2008, Pedro Lumantas, a New People’s Army top leader, was arrested at Sibulan Wharf, Negros Oriental. Lumantas is the political officer of Bohol Island Committee (BIC) and Head of Transportation and Communication Bureau of the NPA’s Komiteng Rehiyonal Sentral Bisayas (KRSB) based on Negros Island.
He was arrested together with a certain Lita Mahilum.
Another communist leader, Remegio Burac, was arrested last January.
Burac, who was arrested at a checkpoint in barangay Urdaneta, Lavesares, Northern Samar, has a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Gorgonio Alvarez of 8th Regional Trial Court Branch 4 based in Eastern Samar.
CentCom chief Lt. General Isagani Cachuela lauded the two informants for helping the Armed Forces and the Philippine National Police (PNP) arrest the two rebel leaders. — Christopher Gabriel C. Bonjoc/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
