CEBU, Philippines – Department of National Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro has received the “Ulirang Ama Award” from the National Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Foundation Incorporated.
According to the foundation, the award was given to Teodoro for his “outstanding performance as an individual in his respective field of endeavor and in the same time as a father to his son.”
The Ulirang Ama Award is a project of the foundation to help teach Filipinos to respect and honor their parents and strengthen family ties.
“It also offers Filipinos especially the youth, with role models who exemplify integrity, high moral principles, and ideal care and nurturing of children,” the foundation said.
Teodoro was commended by the group for being head of the more than 120,000 personnel of the DND and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The foundation said Teodoro’s public service is not different from his role as a father to his 10-year-old son Jaime Gilberto.
“As Defense secretary, Teodoro has set and implemented reforms and programs that have boosted the respectability and efficiency of the DND and the AFP,” the foundation said.
It stated that Teodoro implemented the Defense System of Management, which provides a systematic approach in identifying realistic resources that would help in future projects of the department.
For the AFP, Teodoro has implemented programs that helped enhance land, air and sea defense and communications. — AJ de la Torre/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
