P48M vowed for D'bantayan water district

CEBU, Philippines – Chairman Prospero “Butch” Pichay of the Local Water Utilities Administration has promised to give P48 million for the operation of the Daanbantayan Water District.

This was revealed by Cebu 4th district Rep. Benhur Salimbangon after the recent meeting of Daanbantayan town officials and Pichay in Manila.

It was reported earlier that once the Daanbantayan Water District is operational, all existing rural water systems in the barangays will be taken over by the water district. However, Salimbangon has made it clear that there shall be no take-over; this, to put an ease to members and officers of existing rural water works systems who expressed worry over this development.

Salimbangon pointed out though that the Daanbantayan Water District will be operating in the entire municipality including those barangays that have their own water system. Apparently, the water district will be competing with the existing rural water system in the barangays.

Salimbangon said that the moment one or more waterworks system cease from operation because of losses that may be encountered in the future, that will be the time that the water district will take over upon the proper turnover from the officers. — Gregg M. Rubio/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
