Osmeña prefers young bets in BOPK 2010 slate

-

CEBU, Philippines – Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña wants the “young ones” to fill in the lineup of Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) for next year’s elections.

In yesterday's press conference, Osmeña admitted that he prefers younger candidates to replace those BOPK councilors who are already in their last term.

“Generally speaking we go for the younger ones. They are more active, more curious, more creative, there is no problem with arthritis,” Osmeña said.

The mayor wanted the opposition to announce its candidates first, saying that it is premature to reveal the BOPK lineup this early.

“I admit we have a problem with BOPK lineup but the opposition has worst. They have no choice but to come up with recycled losers,” Osmeña said.

Three BOPK councilors from the north district and two others from the south are now in their third and final term.

They are Councilors Christopher Alix, Nestor Archival and Sylvan Jakosalem from the north, and Councilors Arsenio Pacaña and Gerardo Carillo from the south.

Councilor Roberto Cabarrubias said it is Osmeña's technique to announce the BOPK lineup later.

“I was even invited to join two weeks before the filing (of certificate of candidacy),” Cabarrubias said.

Osmeña recently endorsed Vice Mayor Michael Rama for mayor despite his concerns that the latter has been sympathetic to Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia. – Ferliza C. Contratista/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
