CEBU, Philippines – Partly list representative Pastoc Alcover of the Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy has challenged leftist groups to an “intellectual discussion” on Charter Change.
“I keep on challenging kining mga walhon diri sa Cebu. Ako ni silang gihagit nga come out mo,” Alcover said in a press conference yesterday.
He said he has made the challenge several times but no one reportedly heeded it.
Alcover contended that instead of marching in the streets and disturbing traffic, it would be better if those pro or against the proposed Charter Change through a Constituent Assembly would sit down and discuss the issue.
Defending his support to the House Resolution 1109, Alcover said the 1987 Constitution is “flawed and decadent” that it needs to be changed immediately. He said the move to amend the Constitution has been “prolonged for so long.”
Alcover believes the country can save a lot of money if the Senate would be abolished. He argued the Senate has become more of a “liability and not an asset.”
“Let’s do it in an economical way, let’s make it ConAss,” Alcover said.
He also called for the people to view HR 1109 “in a wider context” and “not to be easily persuaded by the people who have mastered the art of deception and mastered the art of propaganda.” — Barbara Anne B. Ocaba, STC Masscomm Intern/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
