P70-million airport in Daanbantayan soon
CEBU, Philippines – An airport facility placed at P70 million will soon be constructed in the municipality of Daanbantayan as the said infrastructure is necessary to complement the economic zone, like that of the Mactan Export Processing Zone, that will be put up in its nearby town.
Cebu 4th district Rep. Benhur Salimbangon said that the Department of Transportation and Communications will finance the said project.
“As of now, DOTC is still conducting a feasibility study. I hope this project will be implemented before the end of my term,” he said.
He added that very soon in the town of Medellin, a number of golf courses will be put in place for foreigners, especially Koreans, in a retirement village.
He also said that he will be inviting some companies at the MEPZ to expand business opportunities in his district and that he will be asking automotive giant Norberto Quisumbing, shipping magnate Ernesto Aboitiz, and diamond magnate Carlos Yeung to be in his council of advisers once the province will be declared as an economic zone. The bill seeking for such declaration is pending at the Senate.
Further, a P48-million water system project will be undertaken in Daanbantayan before this year ends.
With regards to the delay in construction works of four steel bridges in San Remigio and Tabuelan towns, supposedly implemented last year, Salimbangon already called on the attention of Cebu First Engineering District officials. These four bridges have a total budget of P80 million.
Also, Salimbangon said he already filed a House bill for P400-million special appropriations that will be used for the concreting of roads, rehabilitation of schools, and other infrastructure projects in his district. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
