CEBU, Philippines - Technical-vocational skills training is being strengthened in the town of San Remigio with the recent opening there of a skills training center with the help of Senators Juan Miguel Zubiri and Manuel Villar.
San Remigio Mayor Mariano Martinez said that out-of-school youths are the first set of beneficiaries of the training being offered by the center.
Over 100 students are now enrolled in dressmaking and welding courses, Martinez said.
Before, students interested in short-term courses go as far as either Cebu City or Bogo where there are learning institutions that offer such courses.
After Martinez and the municipal council made representation relative to the said project, Zubiri assured P1 million funding. The initial amount of P500,000 was released last year; the other half will be released next month.
In his speech during the inauguration ceremony, Zubiri announced of his continuing support to the administration of Martinez and for the further development of San Remigio town, just like his commitment with the other local leaders of government units in northern Cebu.
Prior to the unveiling ceremony of the building for the said skills training center, Zubiri was in Bogo with Mayor Celestino “Junie” Martinez, Jr. for the inauguration of a water system in barangay Siocon. — Jose P. Sollano/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
