Monastery seeks support for repairs

-

CEBU, Philippines – A community of nuns in Poor Clare Monastery in barangay Tayud, Consolacion town, seeks financial support from their brothers and sisters in Christ who would be willing to share God’s blessings.

Pressed with a very urgent need to repair and renovate the monastery’s facilities and receiving quarters, which have been destroyed over the years by termites and other causes, nuns at Poor Clare are calling on the generous for support so they could immediately start with the necessary repairs.

Poor Clare Monastery Abbess Ma. Teresita Bajarias said that the ceilings and roof in their receiving quarters have started to fall and it worsens whenever it is raining.

“This has posed danger to our visitors who would frequent our monastery asking for prayers and counseling,” Bajarias said in a letter.

Bajarias said that to continue serving conveniently those who need prayers and other spiritual assistance, they have to improve their place which would also benefit Poor Clare nuns who have been serving the Church for decades.

“We have existed in the Church for 34 years as a praying community. We are occupying a portion of the lot owned by the Missionary Society of the Philippines along with an old building worn out by time and molested by termites that abound in our place which made this building uninhabitable,” Bajarias said.

“This has brought me to doors of some Good Samaritans whom I believe would help us bring this into reality. I understand the present recession and global crises that confront our people today but far from being disheartened, I believe that in these difficult times, we can still depend on you,” Bajarias said.

Poor Clare hopes to start the renovation in three to six months. — Jessica Ann R. Pareja/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
