CHED all set for opening of classes in higher levels

CEBU, Philippines – The Commission on Higher Education said that schools are ready for the opening of classes in both public and private higher education institutions on June 8.

CHED regional director Candelario Aytona said that despite the reported cases of Influenza A H1N1 in the country, the schools are already well-aware of what they should do especially if they detect students with symptoms of flu.

He said they have already contacted the responsible agencies that would help them in maintaining a smooth-flowing opening of classes and also all throughout the school year.

According to him, CHED has also coordinated with the Department of Health with regards to the A H1N1 virus and what should be done in order to help prepare the schools and the teachers.

He showed the guidelines given by DOH as to the measures to do to prevent health problems like simple washing of hands and covering of mouths when they have cough or colds.

Also, Aytona said that safety of the school buildings, dormitories and boarding houses are already the responsibility of the Bureau of Fire Protection.

He also said that they have coordinated with the Philippine National Police for the safety of the students and the schools’ peace and order.

“This is a collaborative effort with the different agencies for the student’s welfare,” he added.

With the recently reported positive case in a school in Manila that have caused the school to suspend classes, Aytona said that the schools are responsible for their students and should ensure the safety of the people in their school.

He said the welfare of the students and the schools’ employees should be prioritized and should be taken seriously. — AJ de la Torre/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
