CEBU, Philippines – A charge for direct assault was filed yesterday before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office against a resident of barangay Pitalo, San Fernando who allegedly hit a barangay tanod.
Louel Pepania was accused of punching barangay tanod Rusco Noel while the latter tried to pacify him for disturbing a barangay activity in the midnight of April 12.
Noel and another tanod, Jolito Romero, said they were detailed to secure the Barangay Pitalo Nite. Pepania, who was reportedly drunk, allegedly turned upside down one of the tables in the party, causing a commotion.
Romero said he was instructed by Barangay Councilor Carry Manlusa to pacify Pepanio, prompting him to approach the suspect, who was already about to smash a plastic chair.
Romero said he introduced himself as a tanod but the suspect ignored him. Noel came to help Romero because Pepania already tried to pull a bamboo post.
Noel said he also introduced himself as a tanod and warned the suspect not to misbehave since Mayor Lakambini Reluya was attending the activity.
However, instead of heeding his request Pepania allegedly punched him several times, causing him to fall on the ground.
The suspect was only pacified when Romero sprayed teargas on his face. – Fred P. Languido/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
