Robbery "victims" to undergo polygraph test

CEBU, Philippines – The two employees of GP Dental Supply who were robbed of P1.3 million last Wednesday will be made to undergo a polygraph test tomorrow to clear them from suspicions that the robbery was an inside job.

City Police Director Patrocinio Comendador said results of the polygraph test would also help the police determine the angles to pursue in their investigation.

Bonifacio Dayapan and Willy Gerenia, both relatives of the clinic’s owner Pamela Grashasbi, came from a Banco De Oro branch in Magallanes Street when held up at a stop light at the corner of Sanciangko and Leon Kilat Streets.

Dayapan is a collector of GP Dental Supply while Gerenia is Garshasbi’s uncle. The clinic is located along Urgello Street in barangay Sambag II.

The P1.3 million was placed inside the tool box of the motorcycle under the seat while another P57,000 was placed inside Dayapan’s bag.

The inside job angle surfaced after preliminary investigation, but Grashasbi and her family refused to heed the possibility.

Dayapan and Gerenia earlier claimed two men on board a motorcycle and wearing bonnets and helmets stopped right in front of them while they waited for the light to turn green. One of the two reportedly pointed a .45 caliber pistol at Dayapan and demanded for the bag containing the P57,000.

Not satisfied with taking only the bag, the robber allegedly asked for the key of the motorcycle and ordered Dayapan and Gerenia to get off the bike.

The robber then drove off with the victim’s motorcycle with plate number 7833-YI heading towards Panganiban Street, with his partner following him on the other motorcycle.

Dayapan and Gerenia subsequently went to the city police office to report the incident but Supt. Jonathan Abella, chief of the City Intelligence Branch and Officer-in-Charge of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch, said the robbery was reported almost an hour after it happened. — Niña G.
