Former city accountant Edna Jaca succumbs to cancer

Former Cebu City Accountant Edna Jaca succumbed to cancer of the lungs last Saturday in one of the private hospitals in the City. She was 55.

Jaca was head of the city’s Department of Manpower Development and Placement when she was diagnosed with lung cancer last year. Her cancer was already at stage four at that time. She was confined in the hospital since March this year.

Jaca worked at the city treasurer’s office before her appointment as city accountant and DMDP head.

She is survived by her husband, former Inayawan barangay captain Tarciano Jaca, and three children.

Her remains now lie at her residence in Inayawan Pardo.

It was only recently that the Sandiganbayan upheld the conviction of Jaca, former city administrator Allan Gaviola, former city treasurer Eustaquio Cesa for failure of a subordinate to liquidate cash advances.

But the legal counsel of the former City Hall officials argued the unliquidated cash advances amounting to P9.8 million was an auditing lapse and not the officials’ mistake. — Ferliza C. Contratista/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
