PCAS says Ylanan shooting was accident

-

CEBU, Philippines – As far as the Police Center for Aviation and Security is concerned, the shooting of Chief Insp. George Ylanan, chief of the Cebu City Police Office Investigation and Detective Management Branch, was purely accidental.

PCAS-7 director Supt. Joselito Solido said they based their investigation on the statement of the wife of Ylanan who said her husband accidentally fired his gun in the domestic departure area of Mactan Cebu International Airport while sending off a relative.

Solido also said there was no commotion between Ylanan and his wife at the airport past 12 a.m. the other day.

He said that the airport’s CCTV camera captured the arrival of Ylanan and the loading off of a woman from the police officer’s vehicle. The next scene later captured by the surveillance camera was a taxicab beside Ylanan’s vehicle.

Airport porters then took Ylanan to the taxicab which sped him off to the hospital after the police accidentally shot himself hitting his stomach with his own .45 cal. service firearm.

Lapu-Lapu City Police Office chief Sr. Supt. Mariano Natuel said that until Ylanan himself issues a statement over the incident they cannot give any further information.

Ylanan was declared stable yesterday at Chong Hua Hospital after the bullet was taken out of his stomach. He was placed under a three-day observation starting late Monday evening at the intensive care unit. – Niña G. Sumacot/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
