'Masiao' operator falls in Dumanjug
CEBU, Philippines – An alleged “masiao” operator fell into the hands of the police during a raid in his house in barangay Looc, Dumanjug at 6:15 a.m. last Friday.
Police investigators said Precilio Efhan Jr., alias “Jun-Jun,” husband of barangay councilwoman Anecita Efhan, is involved in number games in Dumanjug and other neighboring towns.
Elements of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) conducted the raid at the suspect’s house by virtue of a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court branch 21 judge Eric Menchavez for a violation of RA 9297.
Precilio was allegedly placed under surveillance for several months before the operation was finally conducted that led to his arrest.
Police officers confiscated bundles of tally sheets with masiao combinations, five ballpens, one calculator, one fax machine and coins that amounted to P1, 450.
PIB head Maria Elma Delos Santos said that based on information that they have gathered, the suspect started his illegal activities in 1995 and is operating under the supervision of a known businessman in Cebu.
Precilio is allegedly operating in the towns of Barili, Dumanjug, Ronda and other neighboring towns.
Delos Santos said they will also submit a report to the Department of Local Interior Government (DILG) about the involvement of the councilwoman’s husband in the illegal gambling activity and it would be up to the DILG to make an action.
Charges would be filed in court against the suspect tomorrow. — Christopher Gabriel C. Bonjoc/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
