Local legislation soon to be digitally compiled, recorded

CEBU, Philippines – Vice Mayors in the Philippines were recently oriented on the plan to computerize all acts of legislations from local government units to a centralized Master Code.

Cebu City Acting Mayor Michael Rama, who heads the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines (VMLP) said a gathering was recently held here in Cebu for the Vice Mayors to be updated of the computerization plan.

“First it will be from their municipality or city, then we will be interconnected for easier tracking and eventually for the creation of a Master Code,” Rama said.

He said there will be support from the private sectors like Ayala for the realization of the project.

He said once computerized and digitized, there will be a repository of laws and ordinances which can be easily accessed and reviewed.

Other than that the vice mayors were also able to hear inputs for their continuing education program.

Topics discussed include Social Marketing on Local Economic Development which emphasized the importance of the participation of the private sector as well as non-government organizations in the progress of a local government unit.

Another topic was Career Development and Values System, which Rama said refreshed the vice mayors on the essence of their respective jobs.

“That we are here, should not only be because of money, there should be uprightness and knowledge,” Rama said. —Ferliza C. Contratista/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
