City to finish giving cash aid to seniors this month

CEBU, Philippines – City Hall is targeting the distribution of all financial assistance to senior citizens by the end of the month.

Cebu City Social Welfare Officer Catherine Yso told The FREEMAN they have already set the schedule of distribution in the barangays starting tomorrow, Monday.

Yso said they have so far distributed financial assistance to more than 5,000 of the 23,000 senior citizens during the first two scheduled releases this month.

This covered 27 out of the 80 barangays in the city.

The City Hall team, consisting of the personnel from CSWO, City Accounting, City Treasurers Office, Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs and some of the city councilors will go daily to different venues of clustered barangays.

The city allotted for this year P50 million for the granting of the P2,000 financial assistance for senior citizens pursuant to the promise of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña for the said sector to be able to enjoy the fruits of the 300-hectare South Reclamation Project.

The P2,000 consists of last year’s birthday and Christmas gifts.

During this year’s Sinulog celebration last January, Osmeña, in his rented place in Houston, Texas, announced the P50 million appropriation after the city earned a surplus of P250 million from the SRP.

Osmeña sought treatment of urinary bladder cancer in Texas, underwent surgery and will be back Tuesday. — Ferliza C. Contratista/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
