CEBU, Philippines - The police are eyeing jealousy as the reason for the death of a 19-year-old port worker who was stabbed by his co-worker in Pier 5, Cebu City yesterday.
Renie Villaronte died at the Cebu City Medical Center due to stab wounds inflicted by Stephen John Yosores.
Another co-worker of the victim told police they believe the suspect got jealous on Villaronte after he saw his live-in partner and the victim together bringing a big bag while waiting for a ride.
Yosores allegedly approached the two and asked his live-in partner to go home with him but she refused that irked the suspect and prompted him to stab Villaronte.
The victim was allegedly able to ask for help and was brought to the hospital but he was later pronounced dead by the doctor.
Meanwhile, a 19-year-old student is now in critical condition after he was stabbed by three people inside a disco in Bliss Housing barangay Labangon yesterday midnight.
The victim, Ericson Chua, a resident of Katipunan St., and a second year college student went to the disco to enjoy.
Witnesses said that while in the middle of the dance, a commotion suddenly broke and the victim just fell on the floor with blood in his stomach.
Chua was immediately rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment.
Police immediately conducted a pursuit operation after the suspects tried to run away from the scene but three of them later voluntarily surrendered to the barangay tanods of Labangon and turned over a 12-inch knife that was believed to be used in the stabbing.
One of the suspects was identified as Joy Wilson Najava of Salvador St., Labangon, while the two others are still minors aged 16 and 17.
The suspects told the police that it was the victim who first boxed them that prompted them to retaliate by stabbing him. — AJ de la Torre and Lesley Caminade of Banat News (THE FREEMAN)
