Pickup kills store owner
CEBU, Philippines - A 64-year-old store owner died after a pick-up rammed into her store last Saturday evening in barangay Calung-Calung, Toledo City.
Rosario Almet was rushed to the Balamban District Hospital where she was proclaimed dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Toledo City traffic enforcer Roy Mahinog said that during their investigation, it was found out that the driver lost the control of his vehicles that made him swerve out of the road and ram into the victim’s store.
The driver, Cristopher Cañete, 30, explained that he was already on his way to park his pick-up when the accident happened.
Mahinog said that Cañete was not drunk and was in perfect condition to drive. The driver was detained at the police station but Mahinog said they will release him because the family of Almet are no longer interested to file a case because they believe what happened was an accident.
Cañete has reportedly paid all the hospital bills of the victim and claimed responsibility over other expenses. — AJ de la Torre/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
