P20M for rehab of CCMC, Guba Emergency Hospital

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Health has allocated P20 million for the rehabilitation of the city hospital and the emergency hospital in the mountain barangay of Guba.

Acting Mayor Michael Rama yesterday called up a meeting with the officials and consultants of the Cebu City Medical Center headed by Dr. Myrna Go to discuss on how to speed up the project.

After their closed-door meeting, Rama told reporters that he had instructed the hospital chief and her staff to speed up the preparation of the needed documents for fear that the project might be cancelled.

“Anugon man god kaayo kun mabalik lang ang kwarta sa general fund sa DOH pananglit dili dayon matrabaho ang mga dokumento,” Rama said.

The DOH had already prepared a draft of the memorandum of agreement to be signed by the mayor and the health officials, but Rama has decided not to divulge details yet to the public.

The Guba Emergency Hospital is a satellite hospital run by the Cebu City government, but it was reportedly described by some residents as “ospital para ra sa mga giubo ug ubang ginagmay’ng sakit”.

Rama said he believes that the P10 million to be granted to each of the CCMC and the Guba Emergency Hospital cannot be used to buy new medical equipment, but only for the physical improvement of the said hospitals.

City consultant Rene Sanapo has been appointed by Rama as administrator of the 48-year-old CCMC whose task is to improve the performance of the city-run hospital in providing medical services to city constituents.

To recall, Mayor on-leave Tomas Osmeña had expressed dissatisfaction of the performance of the hospital and disappointment over the attitude of its personnel that he is already willing to sell the CCMC. — Rene U. Borromeo/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
