3 persons, 2 groups get agri award
CEBU, Philippines – Three individuals and two farmer’s groups from Cebu were recently cited for their achievement in the field of agriculture.
The awardees were cited for their accomplishments in their respective field which, according to Department of Agriculture regional director Ricardo Oblena, “put food” on the table of Cebuanos and Filipinos as a whole.
The awardees include Agusto Causin of Barili for aquaculture; Retired Major Avelino Peralta, a small livestock raiser in Carmen; high value commercial crops farmer Casimiro Pilones of Paril, Cebu City; Uling Multipurpose Cooperative of Naga-Uling, Cebu; and the Tuble Rural Improvement Club of Moalboal, which is a Rural Women’s Organization.
All awardees received P10,000 each. Nine other awardees were from Central Visayas.
During the awarding ceremony, Oblena told the participants the importance of protecting the environment, and to sustain the limited resources while aiming for agricultural productivity.
“So that future generations will have enough food ad source of livelihood during their lifetime,” Oblena said.
Land Bank of the Philippines vice president Ruel Romarate, who was the keynote speaker, praised the awardees for their hard work and discipline.
“I assure you that LBP desires to partner with rural organizations in transforming the countryside into vibrant and dynamic communities through projects that the bank can finance through loan packages,” Romarate said. — Ferliza C. Contratista/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
