Body of woman trapped in fishing net found in Danao

-

CEBU, Philippines – A cadaver of a woman was found trapped in fishing net in barangay Dungguan, Danao City yesterday.

The body, already in a state of decomposition, was suspected to be that of 19-year-old Isidra Avila who has been missing since May 2, but police said the cadaver needs undergo forensic test to validate the claim of Avila’s family.

The PNP Crime Laboratory in Cebu City will conduct the autopsy on the body to determine the cause of death. The body was brought to the Saint Jude Funeral Parlor.

It is suspected that the woman was raped before being killed because the body was already naked and even sustained injuries, particularly on the private part.

Isidra’s elder sister Almary said her sister left their house in barangay Tabok, Danao City on May 2 and never came back, which prompted them to report her disappearance to the police.

Almary said they suspect that Isidra might have met someone because she was reportedly busy sending text messages shortly before she disappeared last May 2. Isidra is the youngest of seven siblings.

“Nagtuo sad mi nga gidakdakan ug bato ang ulo sa akong igsuon kay nangatang-tang naman ang ngipon ani,” Almary said.

Meanwhile, Danao City Police Director Elmer Lim said initial investigation revealed that Isidra did not bring her mobile phone with her when she left the house, but the messages in the inbox have reportedly been erased.

Lim said they suspect that the missed call that was recorded in the phone was made by the person Isidra was texting with before she disappeared.

A request was already sent to the National Telecommunications Commission to retrieve the text messages that Isidra received.

Police also suspect that Isidra might have joined a fraternity, which was very rampat in the city two months ago. That was also the first time that Isidra left her mobile phone in the house. —Christopher Gabriel C. Bonjoc and Ana Coritha Desamparado (THE FREEMAN)
