CEBU, Philippines - Despite the impact of the global recession on the local economy, and the mismatch of jobseekers' skills to that of some work offerings, more than four hundred applicants were hired on the spot by two firms and a group of companies that joined the local jobs fair conducted at the Cebu Provincial Capitol Social Hall last May 1 in celebration of Labor Day.
According to the partial list, 466 jobseekers out of 3,028 were hired by participating companies like the Cebu Mitsumi, Inc.; Gaisano Group of Companies and Watson Personal Care Stores, Inc. of the 43 establishments which responded to the invitation of the Public Employment Service Office.
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority also joined the said jobs fair and conducted youth profiling for skills training and the Pangulong Gloria Scholarship Program. – Johanna T. Natavio/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
