Comelec-South resumes operation

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Commission on Elections – Cebu City South District resumed operations on temporary server after its main system crashed for still undetermined reasons the other day.

Bernard George de los Reyes, Election Assistant II, said that except in validation, they resumed operations on all services yesterday. He said they have yet to determine why their system just rebooted itself last Monday.

The problem now, De los Reyes said, is how to go about validating those voters whose names are recorded in the main system, albeit only about 100 would be made to appear before the Comelec in case the main system would not be repaired.

De los Reyes assured the office has a back-up of previous files in the temporary system that they are using but because the system was updated only until April 3, validation files entered into the system after April 3 like pictures of the registrants would most probably be lost after this date.

The Central Processing Unit would be sent to the Comelec Manila office and De los Reyes said they are optimistic that the system would be fixed within the week.

The office has switched to a temporary system so it could proceed with registration of voters.

De los Reyes said the crashing of the system last Monday was the first time they encountered a massive technical breakdown within years of operation. The office has at least 300 clients a day.

In case the main system would no longer be fixed, De los Reyes said they would have to convert the temporary system into a main system. — AJ A. de la Torre/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
