CPPO chief wants masiao monitored

CEBU, Philippines – Amidst reports that masiao still exists in some towns, acting Cebu Provincial Police Office director Supt. Erson Digal ordered the Provincial Intelligence Branch to tighten their monitoring and identify the operators.

Yesterday morning, a sister of a masiao operator in Badian town who died after his house was raided went to the CPPO headquarters to complain that masiao is still rampant in their town.

Digal said that the chief of police of Badian and other neighboring towns will be ordered to report to his office to explain the real score.

Meanwhile, Cebu City Police Office Director Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador said they will coordinate with CPPO regarding the matter.

Comendador confirmed that although some of the masiao operators or financiers operating in the province are from Cebu City, the said illegal gambling activity is not as widespread here in the city.

The investigation is set to also determine if these former operators resorted back to the illegal gambling activity, said Comendador. –Christopher Gabriel C. Bonjoc and Niña G. Sumacot /BRP (THE FREEMAN)
