Summer Training Camp constructed soon in Dalaguete

CEBU, Philippines – The tourism industry of the Dalaguete will soon get a big boost with the establishment of the Summer Training Camp in the town.

This after a lot in barangay Mantalungon was donated to the provincial government to make way for the construction of the camp. The lot covers an area of 7,349 square meters.

A deed of donation was signed recently by Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and Jose Manuel Canton, a resident of the town who donated the lot.

The signing was witnessed by Provincial Board Members Wilfredo Caminero and Julian Daan, Dalaguete Mayor Andrade Alcantara and the municipal councilors.

Canton said that ever since he was a kid, he was always proud of Mantalungon but was dismayed that after so many years, he hardly noticed any development.

He thought of donating a parcel of his land to the province so that it would make way for the development of the town to make it a worthy summer capital of Cebu.

“With the leadership of Gov. Garcia, I know that the place will be very progressive in the future,” he said.

Alcantara said he was very thankful for the donation as it will boost the town’s tourism industry.

Barangya Mantalongon, an upland barangay, is known as the “vegetable basket” of Cebu. Cabbages and other vegetables that can be grown only in temperate zones are raised in Mantalongon to be sold to other towns.

Dalaguete is known as the “Summer Capital” of Cebu. The name Dalaguete came from a tree which grew abundantly in the area - the balete or in Cebuano, the dalakit. — Garry B. Lao/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
