Carcar City launches first barangay festival

CEBU, Philippines – For the first time in the history of the first district of Cebu, a barangay-based festival was launched in Carcar City last Sunday.

First district Board Member Julian “Teban” Daan said he is glad to witness barangay Perrelos’ Acacia Festival, which was conducted in connection with the fiesta celebration of the barangay on May 1.

With the theme, “Paghatag ug Bili ug Maayong Pag-atiman sa Kina-iyahan (To give significance to preservation of the environment), the Festival was participated by seven contingents coming from sitios Camagayan, Proper and Nangkaan, Bas, Dakit, Kaawa, Summer Hills, Ibabao, Katugasan, Donggo-an, Kapatagan and San Isidro, Gay-makers and Kapigeon.

Each contingent showcased different concepts that have connection with the acacia tree.

The contingent coming from sitio San Isidro bagged the first place while the second place went to Ibabao and third place Katugasan.

Fatima Sarausao of the contingent from sitio San Isidro was declared as the festival queen.

Acacia Festival was made possible through the financial support from Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and Board Member Julian Daan.

Aside from Daan and other officials from the Cebu Provincial Government, the event was also attended by the local officials of Carcar City led by Vice Mayor Nicepuro Apura, ABC President Mercedita Apura and faculties and students from UC Nursing Banilad campus and the Perrelos Elementary School.

The festival was capped by a dance rendition of all the participants, organizers, choreographers, and barangay officials.

Nursing students of the UC-Banilad campus also presented a cultural dance number.
