Rumor persists on Gwen running for national post

-

CEBU, Philippines – Even after her “official statement” that she would not seek a national position in next year’s polls, the rumor for Governor Gwendolyn to run for vice president continues to persist.

The rumor re-surfaced lately when Antique Governor Salvacion “Sally” Perez floated a supposed tandem of National Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro as president and Garcia as vice president after both were named Datu Sumakwel and Dayang Kapinangan during the Binirayan Festival in Antique last Sunday.

The presence of both officials sparked rumors of supposed preparations for the 2010 elections, which Perez said she will fully support.

The rumor even gained weight after Teodoro declared his intention to seek endorsement from the administration party Lakas to become its official candidate for president for 2010.

But when asked about the supposed “tandem” with Teodoro, Garcia chose to keep silent.

In a press conference yesterday, however, Capitol consultant on information Rory Jon Sepulveda, said the governor does not want to talk politics these days because “she wants her 1,000 percent effort to be devoted here in the province.”

Sepulveda, nevertheless, said, “only fools don’t change their minds. Mao ra gyud na ang atong maingon.”

The Garcia family has been credited for delivering the decisive votes in favor of Arroyo during her bid for re-election in 2004, which resulted to a landslide victory here in Cebu. — Garry B. Lao/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
