Water system in Liloan upland barangay eyed

-

CEBU, Philippines – Mountain barangays usually have a problem with water supply, and that residents of these areas mostly rely on deep wells.

To address this concern, the municipality of Liloan, in partnership with the Aboitiz Foundation, will be putting up a Level II water system in barangay Tabla.

Tabla, one of Liloan’s mountain barangays, is located 12 kilometers from the national road.

Municipal engineer Remedios Udtohan said that the water system will be launched this year. It is estimated to cost around P800,000.

The Aboitiz Foundation is set to shoulder the cost of the materials while the municipal government will have labor as counterpart, she said.

Tabla barangay captain Henry Tanjay confirmed that water is indeed their common problem especially during the warm months when their crops are most vulnerable.

Mangoes and barbecue sticks from bamboo are just some of the products of their locality, he said. Once water sources go scarce, over 1,300 households in the barangay are affected as they are relying mainly on growing mangoes and harvesting bamboos as means of livelihood. — Garry B.
