Youth to stage "Walk to Vote"

-

CEBU, Philippines – At least 350 youths from the different schools and sectors in Cebu City will gather on May 2 to jointly register for the 2010 presidential elections.

The activity, dubbed as “Walk to Vote,” will gather participants at the Plaza Independencia where they will start the walk towards the office of the Commission on Elections. It will run from 7am to 5pm.

“This is our way of developing social awareness and instilling nationalistic consciousness among the Cebuanos,” said Rachelle Marie Dangin, YVote Philippines Cebu Chapter representative.

Those who have already registered may also join the walk as support to those that are yet to register.

Registration at the Comelec is free and all the youth participants need to bring is a valid identification card.

“Walk to Vote” is initiated by Youth Vote Philippines and the University of San Carlos Student Council.

Youth Vote Philippines of YVote is a “consolidated force of progressive, reform-minded youth groups and organizations working toward voters’ education and empowerment.”
