PB to tackle arrests of 'Lacion drivers using Liloan road

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Board has summoned traffic enforcers of Liloan and tricycle drivers and operators from the neighboring town of Consolacion to settle an ongoing dispute involving access to a road in Liloan, which has led to arrests of the tricycle drivers.

The tricycle drivers from Consolacion went to Capitol recently to complain the arrests allegedly being made by traffic enforcers of Liloan each time they pass through an access road that traverses Liloan and serves as boundary between the two towns.

The drivers said they are forced to pass through the access road because there is reportedly no direct route from the Consolacion terminal to barangay Tayud, a barangay in Consolacion.

But because the access road traverses Liloan, Mayor Vincent Frasco explained that the drivers need to get a permit from Liloan before they can pass through the access road.

Frasco said that aside from the permit policy, the move is also intended to uphold safety in the town.

Frasco said most of these tricycles reportedly do not have a permit to operate in Liloan.

Yet the tricycle drivers contended they have used the access road several times before but the arrests were only enforced recently.

Maambong said the board will make the necessary action on the issue after hearing the statements of parties concerned in today’s regular session. — Jose P. Sollano/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
