DepEd to distribute P8.8 million worth of textbooks in Cebu
CEBU, Philippines - The central office of the Department of Education will be distributing more than P8.8 million worth of textbooks to the different public schools in Cebu .
The textbooks will serve as replacements of all reading materials in the schools that were damaged by typhoon Frank last year, particularly in the northern part of the province.
The books were delivered to the DepEd regional office starting February until the end of March. They were supplied by Lexicon Press, Inc., Rex Bookstore, Inc., Dane Publishing House,Inc., LG & M Corporation and SD Publications Inc.
Lexicon provided 18,535 books; Rex supplied 9,401; Dane provided 47, 484; LG&M supplied 15,238 and SD Publishing supplied 46,105 books.
They are composed of 17,755 Science textbooks; 18, 345 Math textbooks and 99, 625 Filipino textbooks that would be used by both the students in the elementary and high school.
The Science textbooks would be for the use of the pupils in the Grades 3 and 6 while the Math textbooks will cater to Grades 2 and 6.
Grades 1 to 6 will be given Filipino textbooks, as well as second year to fourth year high school students. The teachers will also be provided with teacher’s manual.
There are 677 manuals that will be given to Filipino teachers, 184 for Math teachers and 177 for Science teachers. Ronald G. Gutay, Assistant School Division Superintendent, said that have targeted a one-is-to-one ratio, or one book for every student.
The books were received by Dr. Arden Monisit, Schools Division Superintendent for Region VII from the Manila office of DepEd.
Because of past experiences of errors in the textbooks, Gutay said they made sure there are no errors in the new textbooks that are delivered to them. The DepEd central office have already checked the new books, he added.
