Program to eradicate illiteracy launched
CEBU, Philippines – The Coalition for Better Education (CBE) is holding the BIG READ, a story telling session in support of the government’s effort to eradicate illiteracy in the country.
According to CBE, only one out of five people can read at present in the country, which is still halfway to the 2015 target to achieve the goal of the country to become number four on literacy. CBE said that this goal has been the most neglected of all.
Realizing the need to advocate for more policy support, CBE will hold the BIG READ on April 20 at 5 p.m. at the Capitol.
This story telling session will highlight the literary works of some of the biggest authors and education advocates in the world.
Stories will focus on how reading and writing changed the lives of the authors and the millions of people. The program seeks to encourage the readers of the better life they get from education.
CBE calls on all schools, parents, professionals, media practitioners, non-government organizations and civic groups to join the event.
All are encouraged to bring old books that will be donated to charity institutions. — Jessica Ann R. Pareja/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
