-

CEBU, Philippines - Two men were found dead in separate areas in Lapu-Lapu City on Good Friday, while thousands of people commemorate the death of Jesus Christ.

In sitio Sutungan, barangay Basak, the lifeless body of trisikad driver Dante Sumalinog Baguio, 34, was found floating in the river. The victim sustained three gunshot wounds to different parts of his body which made police believed he was “salvaged” and thrown in the river.

Police said Baguio, a resident of barangay Ibabao, Cordova was identified through his sister Brend Amodia.

According to PO1 John Philip L. Silmaro, Baguio had three gunshot wounds in his chin, left stomach and above his left thigh.

The cadaver of the victim was brought to Cosmopolitan Funeral for the proper disposition and autopsy while the police are conducting followup investigation for possible determination of the motive of the crime and the identification of the assailant.

On the same day, the body of 27-year-old man was found hanging in a tamarind tree in Barangay Pajac.

SPO2 Rolito Jumao-as of Lapu-Lapu City police identified the victim as Jocard Amistad Gallamaso, single, but has a child with his live-in partner.

Gallamaso’s brother told police they saw the victim’s body hanging from a tree with a nylon rope tied around his neck.

Prior to the incident, the victim’s father said he observed that his son and his live-in partner had an argument, which he believed has prompted his son to kill himself.

It was alleged that Gallamaso’s jealousy and his live-in partner’s irresponsible acts are often the causes of their verbal altercation.

In his suicide note, Gallamaso allegedly asked his family to take care of his child. — Mark Z. Gantuangco, CNU MassCom Intern/WAB   (THE FREEMAN)
