-

CEBU, Philippines – The police officer who shot an inmate inside a detention cell in Police Station 3, barangay San Roque, this city, posted bail after charges of homicide was filed against him before the Regional Trial Court yesterday.

PO2 Ramil Tanggol posted a bail of P20,000 after charges of homicide has been filed against him by Rachel Generale, the mother of inmate Mark Anthony Generale who he shot dead inside the San Roque Police Station last March 29.

According to Siegfredilyn Gagani, common-law wife of Generale, they were outside of the San Roque Police Station waiting for her policeman-friend Arvin Gesite when she heard a shot from the inside.

Her police-friend came out then and told them that he will drive them to MacArthur Boulevard so that they will not be involved. Her police-friend never told her of what had actually happened.

When she came back in the morning of March 30, she was informed that her live-in partner was shot and then taken to the Cebu City Medical Center.

When she reached the hospital, she was told by the guard to proceed to the morgue where she identified one of the bodies as that of Generale.

Gagani then called Generale’s parents to inform them of the death of their son.

Tanggol, on the other hand, told arresting officers SPO4 Alex Dacua and SPO1 Henry Orbiso that he was opening the door of the detention cell purposely to take Generale to the CCMC for a liquor test.

He said that Generale tried to grab his service firearm that was tucked in his waist. A grapple ensued between them but in the process, the firearm went off hitting Generale in the nose bridge that led to his death.

Tanggol was detained but was temporarily released after Judge Meinrado Paredes signed his release order. – Jasmin R. Uy/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
