Camputhaw has highest number of dengue cases

-

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City health department has asked the officials of barangay Camputhaw to initiate steps to solve the dengue problem in their area.

This after the City Epidemiology Statistics and Surveillance Unit recorded 17 dengue cases with one death in Camputhaw since January to March 21 this year, making it the number one barangay in the city with highest number of dengue cases.

In the past few weeks, barangay Caretta had the highest number of dengue cases, but the latest statistics of the city health department show that Caretta had slid down to the third place with 11 cases after barangay Guadalupe, which ranked second with 12 cases.

Durinda Macasocol, assistant chief of CESU, said the 202 dengue cases that were reported to their office during the first 80 days of this year is much lesser compared to 363 cases for the same period last year.

Macasocol’s report that was sent to the city Council showed that there were six casualties in the city from January to March 21 that is also much lower compared to the same period last year where 18 deaths were recorded.

However, it was observed that this year, dengue has affected a much wider area affecting 51 out of the city’s 80 barangays, although some of them only recorded one or two cases.

The barangays that have dengue casualties are Labangon, Lorega-San Miguel, Binaliw, Guadalupe, Camputhaw and Carreta.

Macasocol reiterated that parents should immediately bring their children to the nearest health centers or hospital when they experience high grade fever to determine if they are afflicted with dengue. — Rene U. Borromeo/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
