Day for differently abled women set on March 30

-

CEBU, Philippines - The celebration of the 6th Women with Disabilities Day will be taking place on Monday, March 30 with a number of activities prepared by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The National Council for Disability Affairs has announced the celebration per Proclamation No.744 signed by President Gloria Arroyo last December 6, 2004.

This proclamation is in line with the commemoration of the struggle of Filipino women for national freedom, civil liberty, equality and human rights.

NCDA assistant secretary Nora Salazar addressed all the DSWD offices nationwide stating the theme of this year’s activity which is “Babaeng may kapansanan, yaman ng bayan.”

This aims to raise awareness on the rights and privileges of differently abled women.

DSWD-7 and the members of the Regional Technical Working Group, with assistance from the National Council on the Role of Filipino Women, planned activities such as free bone screenings and an orientation on the issues and concerns of differently abled women.

Also, lectures on skills enhancement will take place.

Aside from the activities planned by the DSWD, partner government agencies, institutions, local government units, private sectors and civil society groups are enjoined to conduct activities such as seminars, forums, trade fairs, exhibits, motorcades, and television and radio guestings in line with the celebration. — AJ de la Torre/MEEV
