Bullecer: Church must strengthen campaign against contraceptives

-

CEBU, Philippines – Human Life Incorporated and members of the Knights of Columbus staged a protest rally yesterday in line with the observance of the “Day of the Unborn” as proclaimed by President Gloria Arroyo last 2004.

The protest rally was against the government’s massive population control program through artificial birth control, and even sterilization.

Dr. Rene Bullecer, director of HLI-Pilipinas, said that there have been continuous reports of abortions within the past year until the present and that these should already alarm the government and the church.

However, Bullecer said that the government has done its part and now the church has to do its part in the fight against contraceptives.

“Adunay pagkuwang ang simbahan aning pagkontra sa abortion so dapat pakusgan pa nila ang ilang kampanya,” Bullecer said.

Bullecer is calling on church leaders to be stronger on their efforts “on letting the public understand the evils of contraceptives.”

Also, he said that it is not birth control that is needed but birth spacing.

Aside from HLI and the Knights of Columbus, Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Efren Herrera showed their support to Presidential Proclamation No. 586.

Herrera showed their resolution that stated their concerns on the “global onslaught against the innocent life of the unborn.”

The resolution states that they will create programs and enforce measures that would protect maternal functions of women and mothers and ensure that government resources be used for authentic health needs.

Also, they will undertake programs which will help instill in the community the legal and moral duties to respect and protect the child in the womb. — AJ de la Torre/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
