Uncle of suspect hits investigator's head with wood
CEBU, Philippines - A resident of barangay Tubod, Sibonga is now facing frustrated murder charges after he clubbed a policeman with a piece of wood in the head while the policeman was responding to a shooting alarm late evening last Friday.
The policeman, PO2 Roque Senerillas III, is bent on filing a formal complaint against Anicito Quinto who was reportedly drunk when he hit Senerillas on the head.
It was later learned that Senerillas is the uncle of Eugene Quinto, the suspect in the shooting alarm Senerillas was responding to.
Yet Senerillas himself will also be investigated to determine if it was necessary for him to shoot Anicito in the leg.
Investigation revealed that Senerillas was talking to a witness in the shooting, Gomer Recarborda, also a councilman of the barangay where the incident occurred, when Anicito appeared out of nowhere and hit Senerillas in the head.
Anicito also reportedly tried to hit Recarborda but the latter was able to evade.
To pacify Anicito, Senerillas pulled out his gun and shot Anicito in his right leg. Senerillas’ fellow policemen then brought Anicito to the Carcar District Hospital.
Initial investigation into the shooting incident revealed that the victim was a certain Ceperino Fernandez, a motorcycle-for-hire driver, and a resident of sitio Tipolo in barangay Tubod. Fernandez was reportedly driving his motorcycle evening last Friday when he was shot allegedly by Eugene.
He was hit in his right buttock and was lucky that the bullet did not penetrate.
Eugene, a resident of sitio Bala-as of the same barangay, managed to flee. A formal complaint for frustrated murder is also set to be filed against him today. — Christopher Gabriel C. Bonjoc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
