Upland Development, Bantay Gubat benefit jobless

CEBU, Philippines – Cebu Provincial Board member Juan Bolo lauded the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for providing jobs to those who have been laid off from their works because of the global financial crisis.

Bolo said in his resolution that DENR’s program – the Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Program - is of “big help especially to those who have been terminated from their jobs in companies affected by the economic crisis”.

In the said program of the DENR, 52,425 workers for the Upland Development Program will be hired to plant seedlings of fruit-bearing trees and another 59,111 to work as forest guards for the “Bantay Gubat” project.

He added that with the said program, families of those affected by the laying off of workers can benefit also as the DENR vows to assist them.

Other government agencies are expected to replicate the program in their areas. — Johanna T. Natavio/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
